| The "Raid Des Cedres" Race |
Under the patronage of Lebanese Armed Forces Commander General Jean Kahwagi, the Rangers Regiment organizes the “Raid des Cèdres” race in skiing (Ski Randonné) and snow shoeing using “Raquette” on 26/2/2012 at 4.30 a.m. The race starts in the Cedars forest of Tannourine and extends to the Cedars forest of Bcharré with the participation of sports teams from the Lebanese Army and Lebanese security forces and UNIFIL in addition to civilian athletes both men and women over the age of 16 years.
Therefore, the Army Command calls upon those willing to participate in the race to visit the Rangers Regiment in Roumieh to register their names carrying the following documents: -photocopy of the Identity Card -personal photograph -photocopy of the life insurance policy

RACE REGULATIONS
1- Introduction:
The "Raid des Cedres" (RDC) is a military Ski race which is also open to all participants. It’s a race from the Cedars of Tannourine to the Cedars of Becharre in the first stage and in the Mount of El-Sheikh in the second stage. The participants must complete the race in a team with its deferent difficulties and altitude variations.
This race is organized for the third time by the Rangers Regiment and under the Patronage of the Armed Forces Commander General Jean Kahwagi, and it constitutes a unique opportunity where civilians and military skiers can compete in crossing a unique region over the Cedars mountain peaks and the Mount of El-Sheikh.
- The participants in this race should:
• Study and get informed of the area where the race will take place.
• Be physically, mentally and technically prepared for the race and they must show commitment to the race regulations.
• Be competitive and endowed with the team spirit.

2- General Information:
The teams can participate using the “Raquette” (Snow Shoes) equipment provided that their participation comes in the 2nd category race ".
21 - The "RDC" includes three tracks: The first track extends to a distance of around 30 km. The second track extends to a distance of around 45 km with an altitude variation above 2200 meters. The third track extends to a distance of around 18 km with an altitude variation above 1000 meters. The female teams can participate in the 18 km race.
22 - The starting point is situated in the proximity of the forest of Tannourine Cedars and the arrival is at the forest of Becharre's Cedars.
23 - Each team should include three participants.
24 - All participants should be above 18 years of age.
25 - The race date is set on the 26th of February 2012 starting at 4:00 am concerning the Cedars Race and on the 4th of March concerning the Mount of El-Sheikh.
26- All participants should be briefed before the event on the 25th of February 2012 at 18:00. Later on, there will be an evening fire party at 20:00 for all the participants.
27- The second stage of the race includes a practice at the Mount of El-Sheikh on the 4th of March 2012.
28- The race of El-Sheikh Mount consists of a 25 to 30 kilometers course with an altitude variation of 1000 meters.
3- Categories:
The RDC includes three categories of participants:
- The first category should finish the 45 km track with an altitude variation above 2200 meters.
- The second category should finish the 30 km track with an altitude variation above 2200 meters.
- The third category should finish the 18 km track with an altitude variation above 1000 meters.
- Female participants are allowed to participate in the second category race and they also may participate in joint teams with male participants.
- The military teams participate in the routes of the first and the second category and they are classified with the civilian teams with the aim of encouraging competitiveness.
4- General Rules:
41 - Each participant should comply with the race regulations and any instructions received before, during and after the competition.
42- All The team members must cross the arrival line and the time of arrival of the last member will be recorded as the official timing of the whole team.
43 - Each team should be provided with all the needs which enable it to finish the race without any external assistance.
44 – Each team should cross check points where the names, numbers and timing of the participating teams will be registered. Health care will be provided if necessary in these points.
5- Objections:
Objections can be submitted after the end of the race in the form of a written petition after a time limit of half an hour.
6- Disqualification:
Any violation of the regulations set by the organizers will result in disqualifying the team. The violation can be registered in any check point. The medical check points can disqualify a certain team member after examining the injury of a certain competitor.
7- Participation Cards:
Each participant will be given a participation card which includes:
- One Passport Picture
- The Team Number
- The Category (civilian / military)
- The Track Color (45 km, 30km, 18km)
- Blood type
In addition, the number of the team will be given so that each contestant tags it on his uniform.

8- Participation rules:
81- Each contestant must fill in an application form and place it in the Rangers Regiment Barracks in Roumieh in addition to the following required documents:
- A copy of the Identification Card
- A passport photo of the contestant
- A Copy of the Accident Insurance Policy
- The filled in application form
82- Application Forms are available at the Rangers barracks in Roumieh , or in the barracks of Akoura or the Cedars. The application forms are also available on the Lebanese Army Website and you can get all the information just by clicking on the “Raid Des Cedres”.
83- Each contestant must be personally insured and must fill in a liability release form for any legal pursuit if any accident should occur due to track difficulties.
84 –The race is free of charges.
9- Equipments:
- Ski “Randonné”
- Minimum length: 150 cm
- Snowboards and “ski de fond” are strictly forbidden.
10- Ski Boots:
- The Ski Boot “Randonné” is acceptable.
- Alpine and Backcountry are also acceptable.
- Boots must give firm support and cover the ankle completely.
- Exchange of broken skis is allowed provided that the exchange takes place at the nearest checkpoint.
11- Gear:
Each contestant must possess the following Gear:
- Personal gear suitable to the mountainous areas.
- Provisions and food for the whole period of the race
- Cap and sunglasses
- Two pairs of gloves
- At least one liter of water.
Each team must have:
- 1 survival blanket
- First Aid Kit
Contestants should not lose any of the aforementioned equipments. These equipments will be checked at the starting point and the arrival. Any violation will result in the disqualification of the contestant.
12- Discipline:
- Each team moves independently from the other teams throughout the race.
- Each team must go through all the checkpoints in one group and the distance separating the contestants of the same team must not exceed 10 meters (between the first and the last contestant).
The team leader is supposed to display the following items:
* The team number
* The names of the contestants
* Participation Card
- The team may leave the checkpoint only when it has been registered.
- Participants must comply with the instructions given by the race officials and paramedics.
- The teams should take all the appropriate precautions to avoid any potential accident during the race.
13- Withdrawal:
Each Team wishing to withdraw from the race must announce it at the nearest checkpoint. A contestant may not continue the race alone and no one is allowed to stay on the track according to his personal desire.
The team which decides to withdraw receives the necessary instructions from the checkpoint and should abide by these instructions.
14- Other Regulations:
- In case of any dangers or accidents which may occur, the assistance teams should report to the nearest checkpoint in order to intervene, assist and evacuate.
- All participants are expected to be environmentally – conscious by abstaining from causing any damages to the environment.
- The participants may carry their cell phones and they will be provided with the medical aid cell numbers in case of emergencies.
- All the Checkpoints are equipped with military radio communication devices linked to medical points.
- The Prizes will be presented to the winners after the end of the race.
