Clarification concerning an arrest

The Army Command – Directorate of Orientation issued the following statement:

A group of news websites and social media pages have been reporting news stating that an Intelligence Directorate unit has arrested, beaten and insulted an individual in el-Ghbeiry while that individual claimed he was attempting to transfer money to his son who is abroad and that his funds are withheld in the bank despite a judicial court decision to his favor.

The Army Command stresses that this news is fabricated and totally baseless and that (A.H) was arrested on 14/3/2020 in the act while we has in possession of a large amount of cash money and practicing the illegal exchange of currencies without license contrary to his claim of the need to transfer money. Additionally, the person arrested has confessed of the offence of which he was charged.

The Army Command also notes that the said individual was arrested according to a court decision and that the court has ordered to hand in the sum of money to the relevant authorities in conformity with existing legal frameworks. Moreover, the LAF was not informed of any official court decision related to this sum of money.

The LAF Command calls upon media outlets and news websites to seek precision while reporting news related to the Military institution and to check the facts from official sources before publishing them.
