A people smuggling operation by sea thwarted

The Army Command – Directorate of Orientation issued the following statement:

On 25/04/2021, an army unit with the help of a group from the Intelligence Directorate had managed to thwart a people smuggling operation by sea.

69 Syrians who were planning to move illegally to Cyprus by sea, were arrested in al-Arida at Cheikh Zanad coast.

The Smuggler (A.Kh.) who had received sums of money from the persons intended to be smuggled, was arrested.

An investigation was initiated with the arrestees under the supervision of the competent judiciary authorities.
