Today in the afternoon, the Army Command - Directorate of Orientation held at the Ministry of National Defense HQ, a press conference convened in order to explain what has been achieved during the damage survey in the areas affected by the blast at the Port of Beirut.

The Head of Press and Public Relations Colonel Elias Aad delivered a speech on the damage survey committees’ work and their structure and how their task is being done by a military team who was allocated to 250 committees of 1000 military personnel, consisting of officers and non-commissioned officers, in cooperation with a number of civil engineers and volunteers.

Colonel Aad noted that the Army Command, committed to the set deadline, had completed its mission within 15 days which included 85744 damaged units, explaining that the survey operation is considered sufficient so there’s no need for additional ones from donors. He announced that the results of the committees’ work were made accessible to all donors, so that the Arab countries, NGOs and individuals interested in donating, restoring and reconstructing could view the results of the transparent and detailed survey made by the LAF to deal with the consequences of Beirut Port blast. This will be done according to the decision issued by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, which is extended through 31/12/2020. This decision mandates LAF to follow up on the implementation of the operations assigned to the High Military Command relating to the declaration of a state of emergency.

Colonel Aad, on behalf of Army Command, thanked all volunteers for their efforts in damage survey operations, and declared that the LAF is fully operational to undertake the task of restoration and reconstruction of the affected areas.

Moreover, LAF stood ready to cooperate with all donors (countries, associations, organizations, etc...) to carry out these tasks fully and as quickly as possible.

Colonel Aad also announced that the search operations continue in order to determine the fate of the 9 missing individuals who are: 3 Lebanese, 5 Syrians (a family 2 of its members have recently made the DNA test in ISF) and an Egyptian.
