Meeting of the Army Commander-in-Chief with the General Staff leadership and the commanders of operational units and regiments
Army Commander-in-Chief General Rodolph Haykal held an exceptional meeting in Yarzeh, attended by members of the General Staff, commanders of units and operational regiments, and a number of officers. The meeting addressed the latest developments facing Lebanon and the Army amid the current circumstances, in light of the continued Israeli violations and attacks.
The meeting opened with a minute of silence in tribute of the souls of the Army’s and the nation’s martyrs, most recently the soldier who was martyred as a result of an airstrike on the Qonaytra–Maamariya–Sidon road on 22/12/2025.
During the meeting, General Haykal congratulated those present and all military personnel on the occasions of Christmas and the New Year, expressing his hope that the coming year will bring them and their families goodness and success, and peace and stability to the nation.
General Haykal emphasized that, amid the sensitive phase and major challenges Lebanon is facing, the sacrifices of military personnel and their relentless efforts—across all ranks and functions—represent a fundamental pillar in the nation’s revival and future. He noted that they are contributing to shaping Lebanon’s history, guided by the firm principles of the military institution, and affirmed that these principles will not change, regardless of the pressures.
He stated: “We honor the sacrifices of our military personnel, which contribute to the Army’s achievements. Every role is crucial to the Army’s effectiveness, and every effort and act of dedication helps build a better future for our country.”
On the other hand, General Haykal referred to his recent visit to France, highlighting the positive reception he encountered regarding the army’s professional performance. He pointed out that this performance has earned the trust of friend countries, despite occasional accusations and Israeli attempts to cast doubt on our capabilities and doctrine.
Speaking about the upcoming conference to support the army, he said: “One of the main reasons for the army’s trust and support is its fulfillment of its commitments and duties in various regions of Lebanon, particularly in the South, despite limited resources—a fact proven by experience. Our personnel demonstrate the utmost loyalty and dedication to their mission, which we have seen during several recent operations, where units faced significant dangers without allowing these challenges to affect their morale or determination, amid solidarity from local communities and effective cooperation between the military and the committee overseeing the ceasefire agreement and UNIFIL.”
He added: “We aspire to strengthen the army’s capabilities so that it can serve as the protector and guarantor of the Lebanese people’s security, with the capacity to defend our citizens throughout the country. Our faith in the army reflects our belief in this essential role. Achieving this requires balanced and qualitative support, which is something friend countries recognize as they move to provide assistance to the army and other security institutions.”
He pointed out that the army is nearing the completion of the first phase of its plan and is carrying out evaluations, studies, and careful planning for the subsequent phases, taking all relevant factors and circumstances into account. He also praised the units’ success across various missions, including maintaining security, monitoring, and protecting the borders, in close coordination with the Syrian authorities.
He concluded by wishing the army continued success and prosperity, and expressing hope that the Lebanese people would enjoy a promising future in which they can achieve their aspirations.
