Visitors of the Lebanese Army Commander-in-Chief
Army Commander-in-Chief General Rodolph Haykal received at his office in Yarzeh Jean-Pierre Lacroix, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, accompanied by Imran Riza, United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Lebanon, and Major General Diodato Abagnara, Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
Discussions focused on the latest developments in Lebanon and the region, as well as UNIFIL’s essential role in efforts to restore stability in southern Lebanon.
The meeting also addressed the need to explore possible alternatives for the period following UNIFIL’s departure. The participants emphasized the risks posed by a potential security vacuum after its withdrawal and the negative impact this could have on stability.
Mr. Lacroix also underscored his support for the Lebanese Army and their role during the current exceptional circumstances.
