The Army Command – Directorate of Orientation issued the following statement:

Social Media platforms have been spreading news concerning the death of Dr. Antoine Salem claiming that he passed away after being beaten by LAF troops at el-Metn Highway and attached the news with the photograph of a citizen named Khoder el-Sabeh. The Army Command would like to clarify that on 17/1/2020 while a group of protesters was cutting the road at Nahr el-Mawt – El Metn Highway and while an LAF unit was attempting to open the road, an altercation took place between the protesters and the LAF troops when the protesters attacked the troops. The altercation resulted in the light injury of the citizens Khoder el-Sabeh and Khaldoun Bou Hamdan. El-Sabeh received medical care on spot by the Lebanese Red Cross while the other was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated and released from hospital on the same day.

The Army Command would like to warn once again of the repercussions of spreading such rumors and attributing them to the military institution under penalty of criminal prosecution.
