Arrest of a citizen and opening a blocked road

The Army Command – Directorate of Orientation issued the following statement:

On 6/1/2020, a Lebanese Armed Forces unit arrested the Lebanese citizen Bachir Eid who attacked army troops while opening Zouk Highway. Following the arrest, a number of protesters forced the drivers of two vans, a car and a pickup truck to park their vehicles in the middle of the highway and took possession of their keys. The troops of the mentioned patrol reopened the road and released the arrested citizen later on. Furthermore, in the town of Sarba, a number of protesters attacked a van driver and forced him to park it in the middle of the road after stealing its keys. An LAF patrol rushed to the area and reopened the road following the incident.

Additionally, in the city of Byblos, an LAF unit opened the western part of the highway after it was closed with burnt tires by protesters.
