Arrest of individuals and injury of military personnel while opening blocked roads

The Army Command – Directorate of Orientation issued the following statement:

On 2/1/2020, a group of youngsters gathered in the premises of Deiramar Power Station and started pelting the LAF patrol troops with stones and empty glass bottles while conducting a peacekeeping operation in the area. The confrontation led to the light injury of 12 soldiers while the glass of 3 army vehicles was broken.

In the town of Beddawi and while an LAF patrol was reopening a blocked road to ease congestion, a number of protesters started pelting the troops with stones. A soldier was slightly injured and communication devices were damaged.

On 3/1/2020, an army patrol arrested 4 individuals of Nahr el-Kalb highway for starting a riot and pelting the troops with stones. The altercation led to the injury of 5 troops. During the arrest, army personnel seized a communication device type TYT and a number of knives and large size fireworks which were used against the army while blocking the road.

The arrested individuals were transferred along with the seized items to the relevant judiciary authorities.
