A Discussion Session between the Army Commander-in-Chief and USEK Students
On the occasion of the 82nd Independence Day, a discussion session was held at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) between the Army Commander-in-Chief, General Rodolph Haykal, and the university’s students, at the invitation of the university administration.
The session was attended by the University President, Reverend Professor Joseph Mkarzel, faculty members, and students, in addition to the Army Commander’s spouse and a number of officers. The event came as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen relations between the military institution and the youth in universities.
At the beginning of the session, General Haykal expressed his pride in meeting the students. He affirmed that the mission of the Army is to safeguard Lebanon—its land, people, and identity—and to provide security for all Lebanese, regardless of their affiliations, as this constitutes a fundamental pillar of Lebanon’s continuity.
He also underscored the importance of unity and solidarity among the Lebanese, urging them to stand together so the nation can overcome the challenges it is facing. He called on the students to believe in Lebanon, to rally around the Army, and to remain steadfast, confident, and determined in pursuit of their aspirations.
He added: “The Army is strong and there is no fear for its stability. It is fully capable of withstanding storms, and its foremost priority is the defense of Lebanon in all its components. The institution views all Lebanese equally and strives to carry out its duties with the utmost transparency and professionalism. Many of its members have fallen as martyrs or been wounded on the altar of the nation.”
A Q&A session followed, during which students addressed the Army Commander with full transparency, expressing their concerns and inquiries regarding the current situation, as well as issues related to their future and the future of their country.
General Haykal concluded by thanking the University for organizing the session.
On another note, the University President, Reverend Professor Joseph Mkarzel, expressed his pride in hosting this exceptional encounter, underscoring the vital role of the Army in shaping the country’s future.
He emphasized that the Army stands as the guardian of the borders and the protector of its security, serving as the primary pillar for the nation’s recovery and its path out of crisis. He also highlighted USEK’s ongoing commitment to forging new avenues of cooperation with the military institution.
Following the session, General Haykal toured the university’s museum and wrote a message in the Golden Book.
