Events of the final day of General Aoun’s visit to Australia

Armed Forces Commander General Joseph Aoun and the accompanying delegation concluded the trip to Australia with a visit to the Military Museum of the martyrs in Melbourne where he was welcomed by the Museum General Director Mr. Dean Lee. General Aoun placed a wreath of flowers on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the presence of the Ambassador of Lebanon to Australia Mr. Miled Raad, the Consul of Lebanon to the State of Victoria Ziad Itani, the head of the Commerce and Industry Bureau in Melbourne counselor Fadi el-Zouki. General Aoun gladly accepted the invitation to visit the Parliament of Victoria where he was welcomed by Minister Marelene Keyrouz and MPs Cesar Melhem and Nazih el-Asmar who are all of Lebanese descent and they were all joined later by the Speaker of the Parliament Mr. Bruce Atkinson. During the meeting, the parties discussed the bilateral ties between Lebanon and Australia as well as the means to boost these ties particularly with the aim of providing support to the LAF. General Aoun also met with a delegation of Lebanese – Australian Doctors presided by Dr. Walid el-Ahmar who expressed the Association’s readiness to supply the Military Hospital with medical equipment. General Aoun also met with a delegation of the Lebanese – Australian Association head by Mr. Bechara Tawk and a number of the LAF retired troops where he offered a commemorative shield to the Mr. Miled el-Halabi. Afterwards, General Aoun headed to the School of Antonine Nuns where he was welcomed by Mother Superior Daad Kazzi as well as the professors and students who wore LAF uniforms and chanted both the Lebanese and the Australian national anthems. Following a welcoming speech delivered by Mother Superior Kazzi, General Aoun talked to the students and called them to visit Lebanon. He answered a number of their questions and said that terrorism is one of the main challenges we are facing nowadays and asserted that the LAF is cooperating with all friend countries to fight this threat. General Aoun confirmed to all the officials he met that the security situation as well as the political situation in Lebanon is stable following the election of the President of the Republic and after holding the Parliamentary elections.
