The LAF Commander General Joseph Aoun received a delegation of the Foreign and Arab Defense Attachés league accredited in Lebanon

Thursday, 17 January 2019

The LAF Commander General Joseph Aoun received a delegation of the Foreign and Arab Defense Attachés league accredited in Lebanon and representatives of the truce supervision organization and their assistants.

General Aoun delivered a speech on the occasion where he said:

Our annual meeting is renewed with the beginning of a new year. I avail myself of this cherished opportunity to extend to you and to the commanders of your armies and the authorities of your countries my warmest wishes and congratulations on this occasion. I wish you and your families further wellbeing and success in your second country Lebanon.

The previous year has witnessed continuous political crises at the regional level. Several countries are still suffering from bloody wars amidst incessant terrorist attempts, constantly aiming to carry out sabotaging schemes and threatening communities as well as causing chaos and tumult.

As for the internal situation, despite political, social and economic difficulties that Lebanon is confronting, particularly with over 1 million Syrian displaced in its territories, LAF is assuming its responsibility towards the nation. It is preserving civil peace and coexistence amongst its citizens while monitoring, with the assistance of other security agencies, any attacks launched by terrorists to target internal stability.

LAF is also maintaining its readiness in the South and honouring its commitment to Resolution 1701 and its stipulations at a time when the Israeli enemy persists with its aerial and naval trespasses.

The military institution is closely observing the situation, in coordination with the UNIFIL and through the tripartite committee meetings in Naqoura, in order to secure stability in the south.

At this point, I would like to express my appreciation to your friend countries that are always standing up to support us, whether in fighting terrorism or through participating in the UNIFIL while offering different aid packages such as weapons, ammunition, equipment and training. It is all a proof of your confidence in the LAF since you consider it an essential partner in preserving peace in Lebanon and the region. Thanks to this constant cooperation, we were able to accomplish qualitative steps in boosting the capabilities of the LAF in terms of combat and logistics. We are equally looking forward to receiving further support and additional cooperation, for we believe in the values of brotherly relations, friendship and humanity as well as the common objectives that join us.

I reiterate my appreciation to your armies with whom we have friendly relations and to you, personally, for your loyal efforts in enhancing the relation between your armies and the LAF as well as conveying the true image of our national role.

Welcome and happy New Year.

In his turn, the Austrian Defense Attaché Colonel Heinz Assman delivered a speech on behalf of the delegation where he expressed the delegation’s deep appreciation to the Army Command for its keen and continuous interest in the situation of Defense Attachés. Colonel Assman commended the high level that the Military Institution has reached in terms of training, conducting missions and particularly with regard to fighting terrorism and keeping border security. He further renewed the commitment of the League members to work with their armies with all means possible in order to boost military cooperation with the Lebanese Armed Forces and to support its exceptional efforts aimed at thwarting all dangers targeting Lebanon as well as keeping peace and stability in Lebanon.
