The Lebanese Army Implements Exceptional Security Measures Following Clashes at the Lebanese - Syrian Border
The Lebanese Army Command – Directorate of Orientation issued the following statement:
On April 24, 2025, an exchange of gunfire occurred in Hermel at the Lebanese-Syrian border after shots were fired from the Lebanese side towards Syrian territory due to disputes over smuggling activities. The Syrian side responded to the source of the gunfire, resulting in injuries on both sides.
In response, the army units deployed in the area took exceptional security measures along the border to identify the source of the gunfire within Lebanese territory. They conducted raids in conjunction with surveillance and tracking operations by the Intelligence Directorate, resulting in the arrest of a citizen (A.A.), suspected of involvement in the gunfire and belonging to an armed group engaged in smuggling activities.
In parallel, the Army Command made intensive communications with the Syrian authorities, which helped contain the escalation. Meanwhile, military units continue to take necessary measures to stabilize the situation, and efforts are underway to pursue the remaining individuals involved in the gunfire incident.
