Saturday, 24 September 2016

With the presence of the Director of Orientation Brigadier General Ali Kanso representing LAF Commander General Jean Kahwagi as well as a number of officers, representatives of the Lebanese University and private universities and the organization of the Youth of Lebanon towards Patriotism, a ceremony was held yesterday in the central military club – Manara in order to distribute awards to the winners of the top 3 places in a poster-making contest inspired by the Army Day and martyrs for the year 2016. Brigadier General Kanso delivered a speech on the occasion in which he congratulated all the contestants and expressed his appreciation to the officials of national universities and to the organization of the Youth of Lebanon towards Patriotism who contributed in making this contest a success. His speech included the following: What we need the most in this difficult time, where terrorism and extremism take our region by storm and intoxicate Lebanon every now and then, is to open our hearts and minds to the culture of freedom, openness and creativity. The military and security confrontation of terrorism can only achieve its full goals with the assistance of a comprehensive and deep cultural confrontation as well as a correct ethical and patriotic upbringing, starting with the small family, to school and university, to the state and its institutions. Moreover, the weapon of evil can only be confronted with righteousness, conscience and knowledge and only a bright mind shall confront a dark one.

Afterwards, the results were announced as follows:
-    1st place: Maya Abi Semaan – USEK
-    2nd place: Nicolas Tabanji – USEK
-    3rd place: Melanie Tahhan – USEK
