Security incident in the town of Khaldeh – Beirut

The Army Command – Directorate of Orientation issued the following statement:

A security incident broke out in the town of Khaldeh – in the vicinity of Rammal Supermarket today between individuals from Arab Khaldeh community and others living in the area after raising a banner on the occasion of Ashura. The incident quickly escalated and those involved opened fire using machine guns and RPGs. 2 individuals died as a result of the exchange of fire and several others were wounded.

Army units deployed in the area intervened on the spot to control the situation and restore calm. Security actions were taken, military reinforcements were brought in and foot patrols dispatched.

LAF units arrested 4 individuals involved in the incident, 2 of whom are Syrian nationals, and continues to track down the other militants in order to arrest them.

On the other hand, LAF units reopened the road which was blocked in many areas around the towns of Khaldeh, el-Nehmeh, Kaskas and el-Hisa in Akkar.
