Soldiers wounded during the execution of their mission
The Army Command – Directorate of Orientation issued the following statement”
Yesterday, while army units were conducting a peace-keeping operation and opening roads cut by the protesters in addition to preventing assaults targeting public and private properties, army troops were pelted with stones and large fireworks. The confrontations resulted in the injury of 25 army troops, one of which was gravely wounded in the eye.
Army units arrested during the said operation 4 individuals (a Syrian national, a Palestinian national and 2 Sudanese nationals) for their role in acts of riot during yesterday’s protests.
The Army Command considers that the country overcome a serious incident that could have led to a dangerous crisis and that what happened could have greatly damaged national unity, disturbed domestic peace and fueled divisions. The Army Command cautions against the dangers of sliding toward sedition and confirms the need to act responsibly and wisely to safeguard civil peace, defend national unity and avoid drowning in the traps of sedition. The Army Command insists on the need to increase awareness vis-à-vis the seriousness of the situation and the need to abide by security measures and warns all parties that it will show no leniency in dealing with individuals disturbing peace and stability bearing in mind that the security of the people and the country is above all other considerations.
