Tripartite meeting in Ras el Naqoura

The Army Headquarters - Directorate of Orientation issued the following statement:  


On 25/08/2016 at 9.30, a tripartite meeting was held in Ras el Naqoura, presided by the UNIFIL Commander General Michael Beary and with the presence of a delegation from LAF Officers headed by the coordinator of the Lebanese Government Brigadier General Mohammad Janbay. Discussions focused on the implementation of resolution 1701 as well as the recent events in the South of Litani.
The Lebanese delegation congratulated General Michael Beary on his new mission and wished him luck in solving problems by heading the tripartite meetings. The Lebanese delegation also focused on the Israeli trespasses in air, on land and at sea and demanded their immediate cessation. Moreover, the Lebanese delegation particularly showcased the recent Israeli trespasses in the occupied farms of Chebaa and demanded the implementation of article 5 from the resolution 1701 regarding the respect of the internationally acknowledged Lebanese borders, as well as article 10 regarding the efforts exerted by the UN in order to solve issues concerning disputed regions, particularly the Chebaa farms. Furthermore, the Lebanese delegation showcased a briefing about the Lebanese part of Ghajar and mentioned the latest Israeli attempts to impose their rules in the city, confirmed that the Israeli occupation of this village is a violation of resolution 1701 and demanded its immediate cessation.
General Michael Beary reminded that the resolution 1701 obligates Israel to withdraw immediately from the North of Ghajar and to cease its air raids above Lebanon. General Beary insisted on the necessity to use a coordination and liaison mechanisms with the UNIFIL and demanded the Israeli side to cease the current actions in the occupied Chebaa farms. General Beary also promised to follow up with the issue of the olive fields in Blida in order to ensure they are invested by Lebanese owners and focused on the necessity of the cooperation of both sides wit him in order to preserve stability in the UNIFIL operations one, reaching the blue line.
