The Army Headquarters - Directorate of Orientation issued the following statement:

On 13/2/2017 at 9:30, the periodic tripartite meeting was held in Ras el Naqoura, presided by the UNIFIL Commander General Michael Beary with the presence of a delegation from LAF Officers headed by the coordinator of the Lebanese Government Brigadier General P.S.C Mohammad Janbay. Discussions focused on the implementation of resolution 1701 as well as the recent incidents in the South of Litani.

The Lebanese delegation focused on the Israeli trespasses in air, on land and at sea and demanded the Israeli withdrawal from the Northern part of the Ghajar village.

The Lebanese delegation stressed the issue of disputed areas in Bir Sheaib – Blida and in Adayseh and demanded the immediate withdrawal of the Israeli enemy from these territories since they are Lebanese territories situated between the Blue Line and the International border line.

The delegation emphasized that Lebanon respects the Blue Line but demands at the same time to resort back to the International border especially since article five of resolution 1701 states that the Security Council strongly supports the Lebanese territories’ integrity, its sovereignty and political independence inside its Internationally recognized border according to the general truce agreement signed between the Israeli enemy and Lebanon on the 23rd of March 1949

Major General Beary also highlighted the necessity to use coordination and liaison mechanisms with the UNIFIL and confirmed that preserving stability is the responsibility of both sides and that the International Force is ready to assist in reaching this objective.
