Visitors of the Lebanese Army Commander-in-Chief

The Lebanese Army Commander-in-Chief, General Rodolph Haykal, received in his office in Yarzeh  the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres accompanied by UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix, UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, and the Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Major General Diodato Abagnara.

Discussions focused on the general situation and developments in Lebanon and the region. Emphasis was placed on the need to implement international resolutions, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 1701, adhere to the cessation of hostilities agreement, and continue the implementation of the Lebanese Army’s plan.

General Haykal also expressed his appreciation for the efforts of Secretary-General Guterres and praised the role of UNIFIL, highlighting the importance of cooperation and coordination between the force and the Lebanese Army amid the current delicate circumstances.

Those present also reaffirmed their full support for the military institution and its role during this complex phase.
