Launch of the National Awareness Campaign against the dangers of mines

Under the auspices of the LAF Commander General Joseph Aoun and on the occasion of the International Awareness Day against the dangers of mines, the Lebanese Mine Action Center launched a national awareness campaign at the Regional Demining School for Humanitarian Purposes in Lebanon – Saïd el-Khatib barrack – Hammana. The event was attended by Major GeneralGeorges Chreim, who represented the Minister of National Defense Mr. Elias Bou Saab, and the LAF Commander General Joseph Aoun in addition to several military and official figures. Following the display of a brief documentary warning against the dangers of mines, the LMAC director Brigadier General Jihad el-Bachaalany delivered a speech in which he said: “awareness against the dangers of mines, cluster bombs and the remnants of war is a primordial activity related to mine action in addition to clearing operations and assisting the victims. The awareness efforts that the LMAC has invested reached around 1.1 million citizens throughout the Lebanese regions both directly and indirectly with the cooperation of relevant committees and institutions.

Dr, Habouba Aoun, member of the National Awareness Committee against the Dangers of Mines and Mr. Saad el-Azhari the General Director and C.E.O of BLOM Bank delivered speeches in which they stressed the importance of raising awareness against the dangers of mines and the impact of this effort over comprehensive development and expressed all the appreciation to the Army for its contribution in clearing infested regions and stressed the importance of the continuous cooperation with the Military Institution in this regard.

Brigadier General Chreim said in his speech “we are gathered today to launch this national campaign on the occasion of the International Awareness Day against the dangers of mines under the title “consolidating safety and development. Our objective in the near future is to manage to liberate more than 46 million square meters of land that still need to be cleared of mines in cooperation with friend states and donor parties.

The schedule of the National Awareness Committee against the Dangers of Mines was displayed by its director Major Ali Makki.

The participants attended a cocktail party at the end of the event.
