Meetings of the Armed Forces Commander

The Armed Forces Commander General Joseph Aoun received in his office in Yarzeh this morning, the General Director of General Security Major General Abbas Ibrahim and their discussions addressed the situation at the eastern border and the ongoing cooperation between both institutions in light of the recent development.

On the other hand, General Aoun received the Ambassador of the United Kingdom Mr. Hugo Shorter and the representative of the United States Ambassador Mr. John Rath and talks during the visit tackled the general situation and bilateral ties between the Lebanese Army and both British and United States Army.

Following the visit, General Aoun headed the meeting of the Land Borders Aid Program Higher Supervision Committee in the presence of Ambassador Shorter and Mr. John Rath in addition to members of joint work group where the group evaluated the steps that were achieved in this regard and showcased the coming steps aimed at resuming the implementation of the program in light of the Army’s needs.

General Aoun delivered a speech during the meeting where he commended the efforts of the joint work team and expressed the Army’s gratitude to the authorities of the United Kingdom and the United States for resuming the implementation of the aid program dedicated to provide equipment to the Land Border Regiments the thing that had an effective impact over raising the level of combat readiness. General Aoun reiterated that the open war that the Army has been waging against terrorism is not only limited in its targets to defending Lebanon but also forms a part of the international effort to eradicate thus danger that is threatening the whole world.

In their turns, Ambassador Shorter and Mr. Rath commended the competence of the Lebanese Army and its distinguished achievements in controlling the Lebanese border and confronting terrorist organizations. Both officials also confirmed their countries’ willingness to continue their support to the Lebanese Army with the aim of defending Lebanon and preserving its peace and stability.
