On the 75 Anniversary of the Lebanese Armed Forces

The LAF Commander General Joseph Aoun issued the following Order of the Day To the troops

Fellow soldiers

The LAF’s 75th Anniversary comes at a time of unprecedented political, economic and social crises imposing heavy burdens on the Lebanese people and casting doubts and anxieties on the future and on the Lebanese entity. In the midst of the attempts aimed at saving our country and alleviating its suffering, all eyes are still on the Army. This unifying national institution that works in silence, confronts with honor while giving the ultimate sacrifice cannot be taken down by storms, and hardships will never vanquish it.

Fellow soldiers,

Your institution has for long been a meeting point and a bridge leading to the shore of safety for all the Lebanese across their sects and regions in the direst of circumstances. The Army remains equidistant from all parties in the country and avoids narrow sectarian interests while protecting the unique Lebanese formula that is based on coexistence. Moreover, The LAF performs its tasks relying on the qualities of honesty, loyalty and firmness across the country. These assets qualify the Army to remain the meeting point between all the Lebanese and it shall confront any attempts to tamper with stability, civil peace and the formula of coexistence.

Fellow troops

You are deployed all over the country to defend the border and perform peacekeeping operations where you are confronting two non-negligible enemies. The Israeli enemy continuously attempts to undermine our national unity and tries to achieve its persistent ambitions in our land, water and marine resources at a time when Lebanon continues to renew its commitment to cooperate with the UNIFIL in terms of implementing resolution 1701 and all its clauses. You are also confronting the terrorist enemy and army units continue to track down its cells and their activities with the aim of thwarting its attempts to destroy our society and destabilize the country.

Fellow troops

During 75 years, the LAF has offered countless numbers of martyrs and wounded personnel on the altar of the country. Our land was baptized with their pious blood and their heroic acts has defended our borders and for that they will remain immortal and glorious.

Despite your straitened circumstances, I am confident that you will remain loyal to your oath and the LAF will continue to act as a safety valve and as a lifeline for the country and the people.
