Visitors of General Aoun

Armed Forces Commander General Joseph Aoun received in his office in Yarzeh the Archbishop of Saydnaya Lucas Khoury accompanied by a number of nuns from the Monastery of Maaloulain Syria. General Aoun handed to Archbishop Khoury 10 religious icons belonging to the monastery, three of which are considered rare and ancient. The Army had received the mentioned icons lately from the mayor of Ersal Mr. Mohammad Ezzedin and it is well known that terrorist organizations has seized the mentioned icons during the Syrian conflict.

Archbishop Khoury expressed his gratitude to General Aoun for the generous gesture that brought back joy to the monastery considering the historic symbolism of these icons and their stature in the deep-rooted religious heritage.

In his turn, General Aoun expressed his gratitude to the delegation for the visit and confirmed that the Army under the direction of His Excellency the President of the Republic General Michel Aoun is keen on protecting the religious and cultural heritage of divine religions and added that the Army will resume the search for stolen icons and religious items with the aim of returning them to their lawful owners.
